Military operations in the Nordics: precision, reliability, and trust
Conducting military exercises in Norway demands precision, logistical expertise, and efficient handling of aircraft operations. Access Oslo is the preferred partner for military and NATO operations across the Nordic region, providing full-scale handling at Oslo and Torp Airports, as well as comprehensive trip support and ground services throughout the Nordics.
“The needs vary greatly, but we always ensure everything is ready for the military when they conduct training,” says Aleksander Aaland, CEO of Access Oslo and commercial pilot.
“Sometimes personnel arrive at our FBOs, other times we operate directly at the Armed Forces’ airports to provide assistance.”
Flexible services tailored to military needs
While the Norwegian Armed Forces maintain their own facilities, several critical services are outsourced to Access Oslo. These include catering, de-icing, water and waste handling, ground support, and efficient transport. Access Oslo also provides extra services to enhance the experience, which the military greatly appreciates. A prime example is the Swiss Armed Forces, which return to Norway annually for intensive training. They set up a base with several helicopters and aircraft for a week-long exercise.
“They could train elsewhere in the region, but they choose us every year. We know their needs, and we are ready from the moment they arrive, coffee and pastries are waiting at five in the morning,” Aleksander explains.

Access Oslo’s expertise also extends to complex operations, including air-to-air refueling and handling on hangar ships.
“We handle everything from small propeller aircraft to some of the world’s largest military aircraft,” says Vidar Broks-Sjåstad, Key Account Manager and Senior Handling Coordinator.
“While the needs vary, our goal is always the same: to ensure a seamless and efficient operation.”
Going beyond logistics
Although military personnel may not require the luxury of VIP passengers, Access Oslo consistently goes the extra mile.
“We deliver what our clients request, but we also ask what else we can assist with. The answer is often yes,” Vidar notes.
“Military operations can be slow by nature, but with us everything runs smoothly. They notice and appreciate it.”
Aleksander adds:
“Other handlers might decline because it’s too much effort, but we do what is required. It pays off for both our clients and our suppliers.”
This dedication to flexibility and problem-solving has made Access Oslo a trusted partner for the Armed Forces and NATO.
